Rhipsalis crispata is a species of epiphytic cactus native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil. This species belongs to the Rhipsalis genus, which includes cacti that thrive in humid forested environments, often growing on trees or rocks as epiphytes or lithophytes.
Key Characteristics:
Growth Form: Features cascading, flattened stems that grow in clusters, creating a lush, trailing appearance, ideal for hanging baskets or mounted displays
Flowers: Produces small, creamy-white, star-shaped flowers that bloom along the edges of the stems, usually in spring. These flowers are followed by tiny, translucent berries
Habitat: Native to warm, humid forest regions, it thrives in well-draining, organic-rich soil and prefers dappled shade
Care Tips:
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight may cause the stems to scorch or discolour
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during the growing season, allowing it to dry slightly between waterings. Water sparingly in winter when the plant’s growth slows
Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 18°C and 26°C (65°F to 79°F). Protect from frost and cold drafts
Humidity: Requires high humidity, so misting or placing the plant near a humidifier can help recreate its natural rainforest conditions
