Cultivation of Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus)
This kit includes a plastic bag with substrate. Follow these steps to successfully cultivate oyster mushrooms:
1. Preparation:
- Upon opening the package, check if the substrate is completely white. If not, close the packaging with the plastic lid and store it for 10-14 days at 20-25°C.
- Ensure the plastic bag remains around the substrate (see Figure 1).
2. Cultivation Process:
- Make five 2-3 cm incisions in the plastic containing the substrate.
- Water the substrate with ¼ liter of water to moisten the surface.
- Leave the set with the plastic lid on at a temperature of 20-25°C.
3. Growth Phase:
- After approximately 2 weeks, white pins will appear. Move the container to a light position at a temperature of 10-15°C, but avoid direct sunlight.
- Ensure the substrate surface never dries out. Moisten it at least once a day with a plant spray, keeping it moist but not too wet (see Figure 2).
4. Fruiting:
- From the white pins, small stems with grey dots, known as clusters, will develop. Continue spraying the mushrooms daily to prevent drying out during fruiting.
5. Harvesting:
- The total harvesting period may extend up to three months. To harvest, gently twist and pull the cluster from the substrate, ensuring no flesh remains.
- Before consumption, trim the mushroom 1 cm below the gills. The stems, which are slightly tougher, can be used for sauces or soups.
- The cycle repeats itself, allowing up to three harvests from the set. Before each new harvest, make 5 new incisions in the plastic.
Enjoy Your Harvest
Good luck and bon appétit!
