Tying in climbing roses

It is important to regularly tie in the stems of climbing and (to a lesser degree) rambler roses. To start with, if a shoot gets too wayward it can get caught in clothing (or skin), so you can avoid accidents by tying in. Second, it prevents the shoot from breaking in the wind. Third, it means that you can site the shoot where you want, so that the resultant flowers are better placed. Watch out for those thorns.
