    Rhipsalis baccifera subsp. horrida

Rhipsalis baccifera subsp. horrida is a subspecies of the widely distributed epiphytic cactus Rhipsalis baccifera. Native to tropical and subtropical regions, this plant is known for its intricate, spiny stems and adaptability to indoor cultivation. It is a member of the Rhipsalis genus, which comprises epiphytic cacti that often grow in shaded forest environments.

    Key Characteristics:

    • Growth Form: This plant develops slender, cylindrical stems with a slightly spiny texture. Its branching habit gives it a dense, bushy appearance, ideal for hanging baskets or as a trailing plant
    • Flowers: The blooms are small, creamy-white, and typically appear along the stem joints, followed by small, berry-like fruits. Flowering occurs sporadically throughout the year
    • Habitat: Found in tropical forests, it thrives as an epiphyte on trees, enjoying shaded, humid conditions

    Care Tips:

    • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light levels. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent damage to the stems
    • Watering: Water thoroughly during the growing season, allowing the top layer of soil to dry between waterings. Reduce watering in cooler months to avoid root rot
    • Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions between 18°C and 26°C (65°F to 79°F) and is sensitive to frost
    • Humidity: Requires high humidity, making it an excellent candidate for bathrooms or kitchens. Alternatively, use a humidifier or mist the plant occasionally
    • Soil: Use a well-draining mix suitable for epiphytic cacti, such as orchid bark combined with a small amount of cactus soil
