Pinguicula ‘Anna’ may look innocent, but this butterwort with beautiful violet flowers is indeed a carnivorous plant! Its sticky, succulent pale green leaves attract and trap insects such as fruit flies, gnats and mosquitoes, so it’s a helpful houseplant for your home. Pinguicula is also known as Fatleaf, as the reason insects stick to the leaves is that they’re covered with tiny, greasy hairs.
Pinguicula ‘Anna’ is a warm-growing Mexican hybrid and is very easy to care for. It requires a winter minimum temperature of 6°C and is ideal for growing indoors in a terrarium. It also looks lovely on a west or east-facing windowsill.
