Mammillaria elongata 'Rubra'
Mammillaria elongata 'Rubra' is a cultivar of the popular Mammillaria elongata, also known as the Golden Star Cactus. This particular variety is prized for its reddish hues, which give it a striking appearance among other cacti. It is native to central Mexico, where it thrives in arid, rocky environments.
Key Characteristics:
- Growth Form: A small, clustering cactus with cylindrical stems that are covered in reddish spines. Over time, it forms dense clumps, making it a favorite for rock gardens and container arrangements
- Flowers: Produces small, funnel-shaped flowers in shades of cream or pale yellow, often forming a ring around the apex of the stem during the blooming season, typically in spring
- Habitat: Adapted to dry, sunny conditions and well-draining soils. It naturally occurs in rocky outcrops and desert-like terrains
Care Tips:
- Light: Thrives in bright, direct sunlight. A south-facing window or a well-lit outdoor spot is ideal
