Athyrium sheareri

Athyrium sheareri - A striking fern with two distinct types of fronds: broader, bottle-green infertile ones that grow low to the ground and narrower, long-stemmed fertile fronds that stand upright above them. The fronds often feature a red-wine hue along the stipe and may subtly colour parts of the frond blade. This fern thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is winter-hardy in sheltered sites, making it ideal for woodland gardens or shaded, protected areas.

  • Two types of fronds: broad, bottle-green infertile ones and narrower, long-stemmed fertile ones
  • Red-wine colouration along the stipe and frond blade for added visual interest
  • Ideal for shaded, sheltered spots, such as under trees or in woodland gardens
  • Prefers moist, well-drained soil and low-maintenance care
  • Height 45cm - Spread 45cm
